The Track | Jerusha McDowell

Jerusha is an award-winning photographer based in Bungendore, her practice sits between documentary and landscape. Drawing the viewer in slowly, revealing themselves through tone, composition and atmosphere.

Born in the remote gorge country of the New England High Country, Jerusha’s connection to landscape is lifelong. That connection is reinforced through the way she works. Much of her photography is captured while riding and camping through the remote terrain of the Snowy Mountains, an approach that allows for a rare intimacy with both subject and setting.  Her path back to photography has not been direct. After studying at the University of New South Wales, she spent seventeen years working across defence, intelligence and counter-terrorism before returning to her creative practice.

Her donated piece, The Track, was captured in the tall Mountain Ash forests of the Bogong High Plains. The image forms part of an ongoing body of work documenting the vanishing legacy of horsemanship in Australia’s High Country.
