Handle with Care | Sig Peters
Sig Peters, known as The Pink Galah, was raised on a sheep and cattle station north of Cobar, her understanding of colour, texture and storytelling was shaped early. Not through formal training, but through the everyday creativity required by life in the outback. Making, adapting and finding joy in what was available.
Now working as an artist, muralist and creative instigator, Sig’s practice spans canvas and large-scale public work. Her pieces are unapologetically vibrant, layered with humour, warmth and a strong sense of place. After years working as a teacher, she made the decision to pursue art full-time – a shift that has allowed her to expand her practice beyond painting into community-driven experiences. Projects such as Palettes / Palates in the Paddock reflect this ethos, bringing people together through art, food and shared experience in distinctly rural settings.
Her donated work, Handle with Care, centres on the humble yabby. A creature familiar to anyone who has spent time around dams and waterways in western New South Wales – rendered in her signature bold and playful style.
