Tess Lehman

“I think photography gives us the chance to see the world through someone else’s lens. To notice what they notice. Much like a book gives us the chance to have an experience other than our own.”

Tess first had a camera when she was nineteen which traveled with her, first to Alice Springs when she left school, then to the northern reaches of Western Australia before she continued her nomadic lifestyle in Canada, Indonesia and back across Australia. When Tess was twenty five, with a small baby that camera broke. Tess then went on to have three kids before she turned thirty and split with her partner soon after. It was then that Tess bought herself a new camera and through those tu- multuous years found solace in photography. Tess has been working as a professional photographer for the past five years, and believes that every shot is an opportunity to capture a moment in time. Tess now lives in Newcastle with her partner Em and her three kids. This collection of photographs is very connected to the water. Growing up in Inverell, NSW, Tess longed for the two weeks her family spent at the beach every year. The salty chips, the small freedoms and lots of time in the ocean. Tess is now working on recreating those memories with her kids and is capturing them along the way.
