The Western Saddle | Ashlee McCurdy
Ashlee McCurdy creates from the Australian High Country, where her work is shaped by rural life, motherhood and a lifelong connection to horses.
An interior designer and mother of three, her practice sits at the intersection of home and landscape. Drawing on equestrian culture and the working traditions of High Country cattlemen, she paints with a familiarity that comes from lived experience. Saddles, horses and stockman life are not romanticised, but understood.
Her Cowboy Series reflects this influence and is a contemporary nod to the people and places that continue to inspire her.
Her donated piece is a 400 x 400 mm acrylic on canvas, framed in flooded gum. A western saddle sits against a soft pink background, introducing warmth and a sense of playfulness to an otherwise rugged subject.
