Out Past The Fence Line | Madison Burger

Madison Burger is an Australian artist whose work sits at the intersection of minimalist design and the poetry of the natural world. Working across textured acrylic, silhouette drawing and abstracted landscape, she distills the Australian environment into spacious, grounded forms.

Her practice is defined by restraint, allowing negative space to breathe. Sculptural layers of dimensional acrylic build subtle relief across the canvas, catching and responding to changing light throughout the day. As the light shifts, so too does the work — tonal variations emerging gently, just enough to remind the viewer that landscape is never static.

Inspired by country life and the stillness of the outback, Madison’s art reflects a profound respect for open ground and long horizons.

Her donated piece, Out Past The Fence Line, measures 76cm x 101cm x 3cm and is painted in acrylic on canvas. The scale gives the work presence. A small line of cattle moves across open pasture, their passage unhurried and familiar.

Due to the dimensional acrylic technique, colours shift slightly under different lighting conditions, a natural and intentional part of the artwork’s evolving character.
